The scene is just after rehearsal for their radio show, and Alice complains about his choice of song. Just then, Mr. Scot, who Phil blew up a show or two back, arrives to chat with Alice. Mr. Scot, played by Gale Gordon, is less impressed by Phil. To butter him up, Phil volunteers to get him a babysitter.
In phoning around, Remley overhears Phil, with the effect of getting the wrong idea over the phone calls to other women. When nobody is available, Phil is faced with the reality, and difficulty of finding a sitte4r at this time of year. maybe Frankie knows somebody?
How about getting Willie to do it? They tell Willie it’s a date with a cute girl. Willie almost goes for the deal, but he learns the truth behind the cute girls age, and what he’s to do. When Willie refuses, Phil puts Remley on the spot to make him babysit. Alice sings, Honey Wait for Me.
Meanwhile, Frankie goes to babysit, and of course Phil lends a hand. What does a babysitter do to calm a sponsor’s kid? Why, read her a commercial of course. Phil actually seems to have a way with the kid, but Remley can’t quite get the hang of it. It doesn’t help when Frankie breaks the bottle of baby formula.
Back at the Harris home, Alice has Julius make an emergency delivery of some directions to make more baby formula. Somehow the directions are mixed up with a recipe for making stuffing, but as if that wasn’t bad enough, the two guys make some creative substitutions.
Fortunately, the baby is rescued when Mr. Scot returns home early. Unfortunately, he ends up sampling the baby formula.
