It was the worst winter in Dodge City that Matt could remember, and it kept getting colder. Inside the Long Branch saloon things are hopping, and Matt is confronted by a rich rancher who accuses a poor man of stealing from him. The next morning the rich man, Joshua, is seen bringing in the body of his murdered son.
The cranky rancher blames the poor rancher who he accused earlier of theft of the murder. Matt goes to visit the poor family to get their side of things. Matt and Chester fight against the frosty weather to track down the man, who had left to do some trading with the Kiowa’s. Matt becomes certain the man didn’t have anything to do with stealing, or with killing.
What does grumpy old Josh have against the poor rancher? Matt goes to confront him, and get to the bottom of what really went down.
