After years of education, David and Diana Bruce are married. The young lieutenant begins his work in the British medical corps. He is sent to the island of Malta and the Mediterranean, where the young lieutenant reports for duty to attend to the sick, suffering and dying. Joined by his wife Diana, the young couple discuss the mysteries of the Malta fever, and the men who are suffering in the infirmary’s.
In his off hours, Lieut. Bruce spends time in his lab, doing experiments. Test tubes are his life. Is he on to something with finding the cause behind Malta fever? He soon gets orders to depart for Egypt. He receives one transfer after another, leaving a trail of good work behind him. Diana dutifully follows him, and they find themselves in Zulu land. His latest work is in getting to the bottom of a pestilence that affects the local farm horses. Are they on to a breakthrough in discovering the microbes behind the scourge?
A typhoid epidemic calls him to yet another transfer. By now major Bruce has it becoming known as quite the germ Hunter. Although taken ill, he is still called on to transfer to yet more jungle locations. Is there hope that he can apply his medical knowledge to bring the beleaguered troops through the jungle? There’s always some new parasite, some new disease that seems major Bruce and Diana are always restarting his work in new places.
though do a long-deserved vacation, major Bruce and his wife foregoes the vacation back to England, to fight yet one more outbreak of disease.
