When we last saw him, Clark and Asa Hatch were trying to prevent a murder attempt on the governor. Superman is still running through the silent, empty rooms of the governor’s mansion after apparently being abducted. As Asa enters, Clark quickly presents himself.
The governor is with Asa, and they all share stories of how they managed to evade the thugs. The governor has been awfully full of pride in his untouchable nature, but now he seems to finally be aware that he is the target of some determined gangsters. Still he refuses to back down on making his personal appearance in delivering a dedication speech. The new National Monument will be an ideal place for the thugs to get at him. Can Clark come up with a good compromise? Will any amount of military force be enough to guard against the villains?
As the group make their plans, a shadowy figure lurks. Later, Clark, Asa, and the governor drive by the monument for a look when they fall into a deep sleep from a carbon monoxide leak. All are asleep, but Superman who rescues them after the car crashes through a guard rail.
What other dangers and mysteries await our heros? Only the next adventure will tell.
