Working the Forgery detail, Joe Friday and partner Frank Smith need to take down a forger who is passing phoney payroll checks. Joe Friday gives the details in voiceover, then the cops head out to a taylor shop to interview the cantankerous, but helpful store owner. A license plate leeds Joe and Frank to a housewife who is on the outs with her husband, but the lead seems to be a dead end. More license plate checks turn up a rental car, and the culprit seems to be identified.
Solid evidence pours in from out of state police departments, but they still need to nab the man. A lucky break lands in Joe Friday’s lap when the rental car company phones in to report the forger is back. The cops roll in, and pick up both the forger, and his wife. The con man caves in quick when he learns that his innocent wife, isn’t so innocent.
