Clark Kent is about to leave the Daily Planet when he is hailed by young copy boy, Jimmy Olsen. The worried Jimmy tells about his mother, and how she has been running a candy store after Jimmy’s dad died. He just learned that his mom is being forced to pay protection money to Chip Donelli.
Later, Jimmy and Clark approach the candy store, and it is reinforced that it isn’t just the Olsen store, but all the stores on Spruce street. Mrs Olsen is about to close up shop, but Jimmy is willing to fight to keep the business. Clark prepares to face down the thugs when they are due to show up tonight.
Clark backs Mrs Olsen, and uses his position as a reporter. Will it impress the thug? Just about enough to leave knuckle impressions on Clarks face. As Superman though, he follows the thug back to Donelli. Donelli isn’t happy to hear about Clark, and when his thug reports that Clark is lurking outside Donelli himself goes to investigate.
The man of steel confronts Donelly, gets shot at, takes away the racketeers pistol, and beats him up. Superman has sent his message, he’ll be protecting the unprotected shop owners. Will Donelli learn his lesson? Has Superman underestimated the ruthless gangster? Superman can’t be everywhere, all the time, and Donelli sends word to take down Mrs Olsen and her boy.
