The mission for ship master Philip Carney this week is to get the Black Pearl of Galala Bay. Right after a historical message about the Pony Express.
Philip tells how a radio message came to the Scarlet Queen to send him on his mission. He goes to assist a ship in distress as he sails through the tiny islands in the South Pacific. Philip is quick to understand that the salvage job is one that he’d rather not have. I think the machine gun fire was a good influence in that decision. It does raise the question of what is so important with this job.
In his typical picturesque fashion, Carney tells of his movements, and the bodies he encounters. The exotic and ugly natives. Philip is determined to leave this mission behind, but will it be so easy? A fight breaks out, gunshots ring out, and Gallagher is down. Can Carney fight his way free? Exhaustion sets in, and Carney wakens in a native hut sometime later.
What Carney needs is a trustworthy ally. Has he found one among the natives? Carney is bent on retrieving the black pearl, but it will require automatic weapons, dynamite, and lots of strategy to fight his way to it. When the black pearl seems outside his grasp, Philip gets a greater prize when he learns that Red Gallagher is still alive. But did he fail in getting the black pearl? With the adventure over, and contact made with Kang, the Scarlet Queen is once again ready to set sail on a new adventure.
In epilog another public service announcement to salute the first McCormick harvester is told.
