The purpose that sets those in Scotland Yard apart is the investigation of political crimes. One such example is of the Absent minded professor case. Igor Guzinko, a man who would betray secrets of the atom bomb. Igor has sought to defect from the Soviet Union, and when his credentials prove out, he is wisked away and given sanctuary. The message traffic gets hot and heavy, covert meetings are arranged, and a contact named Alec pops up. Who is Alec, and how much does he know? More importantly, how much has he told?
A professor with the atomic commission, Doctor May, is being watched. When he is confronted directly, and seems worried, Scotland Yard intends to put on a little pressure, and give him reason to worry. After some suspenseful moments of classic cat and mouse chasing, and spy drama, the doc cracks and starts telling what he did, but not without trying to justify his actions, and with holding other information.
Do the authorities have enough to arrest and charge the doctor on? Even when the doc is convicted, the scientific community seems to rally by his side.
Lousy bunch of eggheads… always getting in the way of law enforcement, and public safety. Or is it: Lousy cops… always standing in the way of the progress of science. I guess it depends on your perspective.
