Lum and Abner – Abner Has Presents for All His Friends. 480903

Two men dressed in traditional Hawaiian attire, Lum and Abner, are seen mid-dance in the center of a small store. Lum, on the left, is playing a ukulele while Abner on the right is swaying his hips and waving his arms. A small crowd is gathered around them, some clapping and others smiling. The store itself is cluttered with various items, including shelves of canned goods and hanging clothes, giving it a cozy and lived-in feel.

After their work at putting Abner’s old farmhouse into shape, including renting it back from Squire Skimp, the folks in town are feeling snubbed. Abner and Lizabeth came back, flaunting their new wealth in front of everybody, and are staying at the hotel in the county seat. Has Abner forgotten his old friends? Dick Huddleston, grandpap, and Lum discuss all the money Abner has been waving around.

It mostly seems to be Lizabeth, looking through catalogs, and shopping for jewels, dresses, and furs. Can you blame her though? She finally gets out of her “woman’s work” down on the farm… milking cows, chopping wood, plowing the fields, and all the other chores of life on the farm.

Abner finally makes an appearance, just as grandpap is getting worked up at the disrespectful changes in him. He comes bearing gifts, and tempers and hard feelings are soothed.
