In the wee hours of the morning, two men meet at the river to pass along a smuggled package. The body the Texas Rangers found later is the beginning of a series of similar crime scenes. Jase Pearson theorizes how the wetbacks who are murdered are tied together. Did he just call his Mexican victim a wetback? Hey, it was the 1950’s, and not as free from racial stereotypes as today.
Riding the river front on horseback he looks for further clues. Evidence is found that may provide the motive for the murders. Staking out the spot, a transaction is interrupted, and the criminal is on the run. What was in that package, and can the Rangers catch up to their man?
At a run down ranch house, suddenly a cold clue from the morgue becomes hot again. Virgil Green is identified as the man behind the smuggling ring, and likely the man the Rangers have been trailing. Time to call on modern technologies to pick up where the chase on horseback leaves off.
The Rangers close in, but want to take down the ringleader. A surprise finding comes from the bank where Virgil slipped into, and out of, without being spotted by the cops.
