Riding the trail to Eagle Ridge, a sniper is spotted shooting at a girl. They’re too far away for Hop Along and California to do anythong about, but the girl manages her own get away. Once they arrive in town, a man with a rain making machine is trying to sell his services. His daughter is recognized as the girl on the trail, but Hoppy plays it discrete as he takes in all the clues he can to the happenings on Eagle Ridge.
What shady things are afoot? Is the rain maker a fake? Why would people want to take pot shots at him and his daughter?
Sneaking around the countryside, Hop Along and California get the drop on the snipers. Word about high amounts of explosives on the mountain are confirmed, and it’s going to be tricky for Hoppy to diffuse the explosion and catch the bad guys. You know he’ll do it, and even expose the secrets behind the mysterious doings.
