Joe Kirby is a newspaper reporter, and while hanging out with his pals, he meets a hot dame, Veronica Smith. Her pen name is Hanna, and She writes crime stories for crime magazines. Joe has lost his job, and as he’s hanging out wwith Veronica and their friends, Joe gets a tip from the cops that he’s wanted for murder. Doing the right thing, Joe turns himself in, and his friends go to the station to support him.
As the cops question Joe, we learn the timeline of events. Veronica becomes particularly interested when she sees material for her new book. Veronica gets busy digging into the dirt of the case, and wants to get to the bottom of it. Will the girl mystery writer find the killer before the cops do? Her trail leads to the horse track, where Joe is caught in a bad position with another corpse.
On the run, Joe goes down his own road to investigate the murders. He talks to the wife of the dead man, Terry, and uncovers a connection to gangster activity. Joe and Veronica get together to compare notes, and a scandal is revealed involving a business that produced faulty cosmetics, causing people to go blind. Is this the motive to use murder to cover up the scandal? Who are the players that Veronica and Joe uncovered? Will the police believe their findings?
Everything seems to be going just swell for Joe, but there’s still one factor he didn’t count on. A jealous boyfriend. The lovely Veronica can carry her own weight to get Joe out of his bind though.
