After another spooky night, morning has come, and our little group of characters review the latest events in the story. Captain Friday is still missing, there’s still distrust and suspicion between Jimmy Parker and the mayor, and the elusive ringing church bell is chiming again. The clawfoot man was seen being carried off by an unidentified man, the black pearl that appeared has once again disappeared. The mayor becomes cantankerous and insistent that Jimmy should leave with Doc Tuner to investigate the ringing church bell. He really wants a few moments alone with Phillus, but what does he want to discuss?
Reluctantly, Jimmy and Doc set out, but a thick fog rolls in. Will they find the source of the bell, and what’s making it chime?
Will Phillus be in danger, and have a need for the knife and police whistle that Jimmy left for her to use?
The mystery seems as distorted as ever. Who can be trusted? Jimmy still has to answer charges of murder, due to the open grave and body that was found on their first night in the City of the Dead. The source of the bell is indeed found, but before the weakened man can be carried back to the cottage, the police wistle is heard blasting through the fog. Jimmy drops the man and runs! Is it too late for the unknown man to survive? Is Phillus in danger? Find out all the answers in the next, and final installment.
