Though Jimmy and Miss Carol had been locked into a room, they’re out again to talk to Doc about the happenings of the night before. Mayor had been shot when he fell victim to a booby trap, and Doc had been scratched up by a man with claws. The sheriff is on hand to hear from Doc, the caretaker of the City of the Dead, about the incidents. Though some truths are learned, more questions remain a mystery. Is there a mysterious church bell that rings in the night? Who is the strange man with the claws?
The sheriff questions Jimmy and Phillus to clear up their story. Being suspects, he discourages them from leaving, and recommends they stay on with Doc. Are they as innocent in the previous nights activities as they pretend to be? Meanwhile, Doc revives his skills as a family doctor to tend to the gunshot wound that Mayor has recieved. Parts of the story that Jimmy Parker, and Phillus Carol gave prove true, but the sheriff still has doubts about why they were in the City of the Dead to begin with.
As Mayor recovers, the sheriff keeps asking the kind of questions about the crime scene evidence to raise doubts about our young couple. Are they some kind of grave robbers? Puzzle pieces begin to fill in details, but the investigation is far from over. What new clues might be dug up about the ringing church bells, or the claw footed man?

Sorry for the late response, glad you like this series. I thought it might make a good summer replacement filler.
The first time I heard it was when I lived alone during the first year of my teaching job here (1985-86). It was particularly spooky at night listening to episodes on cassettes a friend sent me. I told my girlfriend about it and after we were married we listened during a long drive and it remains a favorite.
