The City of the Dead is a cemetary that has been filled to capacity, it’s gates closed, and the only living resident is it’s caretaker. On this night, as the midnight bell tolls, we join other living visitors who skulk through, and speak in hushed tones. What are they up to?
Mr Parker and Miss Carol need help after their car was stolen by two gunmen. They tell their story to the caretaker, Doc and his friend Mayor, but is their tale to be believed? Doc isn’t entirely inhospitable as he offers coffee, and takes them in. We learn about Doc’s past as an old time family doctor, and how he came to take care of the City of the Dead. If Doc trusts them so much, why has he locked them into a room, and barred the door?
Later, Doc considers the story of hearing church bells tolling in the night, an event that hasn’t happened in these parts in years. Wierd things have been going on over the past week. Doc and Mayor go to investigate the dilapidated old church that is in much disrepair.
Screech owls, creaking floorboards, and critters that scurry about, all add to the atmosphere when Doc confirms the old church bell is gone from the belfrey. Where is the sound of bells coming from then? What other secrets will be discovered in the dusty old church building? Who, or what is making those loud moaning noises?
