The pie contest draws near, and ladies in town are trying to butter up Lum. The disgusting behavior is enough to put Lum off on women. He’s just glad to know that Lizabeth hasn’t stooped low enough to try to sway his judgement. I wonder if he’s picking up on the hints that Abner suddenly drops about her pie.
The phone rings, orders are put together, and Lum continues to praise Lizabeth. Is he still planning or at least hoping to cancel the contest? What’s he going to do with all the pies the contest will bring in?
Lum decides to phone the city market to see if they’ll be willing to buy his pies. He just might be able to sell them, and make some money to cover his expenses, and come out a few dollars ahead.
