Mary has been off the show for three weeks with laryngitis. Today, the show goes to her house as she talks to her maid, Butterfly McQueen. Jack arrives, and he builds a fire to get cozy with Mary.
Mary gets a phone call from her mom. She talks about Jack and the Christmas happenings back home. As Jack complains to Mary about her mom, the band fades in playing, the Peanut Vendor. Jack and Mary have a cute argument about arguing. Dennis stops in and compares this arguement to the one happening at home.
The door rings, and it’s Rochester with Jack’s new car, an almost converted taxi cab. Jack and Rochester leave to go Christmas shopping, and Dennis plays his latest record, Speak Low. As they drive, Jack does some backseat driving, and though he claims it’s not an operational cab anymore, he picks up a fare.
In the department store, Jack shops for his girl, Gladys Zabisco. Frank Nelson is the impatient and disgruntled floor walker. Minerva Pious is the sales girl who tries to help jack. Phil shows up to tell about Don being Santa Claus in the store. On hearing this, Jack makes a plan to pull a trick on Don. Jack will dress like the mom while Phil plays the mean little kid. I don’t think Don is fooled much, but Phil plays a little kid pretty well.
Note: Although Fred Allen’s show is back on the air, a fact mentioned in the program, Two of Fred’s voice actors are still making appearances for Jack. John Brown is the man in the cab, and Minerva Pious plays a couple parts in the department store.
