Ben Franklin wrote an article on fire safety in 1735,. Our feture begins in 1736, and the use of bucket brigades to fight fires A processs involving men, women and children. When an organized fire brigade is formed by Franklin, men were eager to join. An alarm system is developed to help the volunteer fire fighters. Zoning concerns are raised with fire safety, and having trees grow too close to houses.

In 1852, we glimpse a company of volunteers, and the lack of organization during fires. Bickering over buckets, water, and taunts among competing companies while houses burn.

Fire boxes are developed to pump water to fires. Hydrants in interconnecting systems to ensure water is never far. Cincinati had the first steam powered engines to put out fires.

As cities grew, safety didn’t always keep up. The firstt practical fire extinguishers were developed. Alarm boxes send a telegraph signal to a central office and in minutes, a fire can be responded to with all first responders.
All to lead up to modern responses to fire on land ore sea.
