To avoid detection from wild Indians, Deerslayer and his friends have hidden themselves in hollow logs. Later, in the lake house, the womenfolk discuss their missing men. As they share their thoughts on who is more handsome, Deerslayer shows up with bad news. Their canoes have been cut loose and set to drift. Can Deerstalker get them back?
Judith is fearless and insists on going along. She isn’t afraid of the red skins or the perils of the woods. As they travel, Deerslayer fills judith in on friendly Indians who may help them.
When a scout appears, Deerslayer calls him out to challenge yhim as friend or foe. Mingo seems trustworthy, but only until they turn their backs. There’s a scream. A clash. Is Mingo dead? Deerslayer and Judith bneed to make a hasty escape, before Mingo’s friends appear.
