Barbara Stanwick fills in for Mary, who is out with laryngitis. She opens with Don, and teases with Phil about how stingy Jack is. Where’s Dennis? Cut to the hallway where Dennis talks with Jack about getting a raise.
Jack explains why Dennis shouldn’t have his raise with some creative mathematics. Phil plays, Surrey With The Fringe On Top.
Phil complains to Jack about his lack of lines last week. Barbara flubs a line as she puts Jack in his place with some Mary-like insults. All the cast jump on the band wagon to tease Jack about being stingy. Jack has to call Rochester, but first has trouble with a telephone operator.
When he gets through, he puts Rochester on the spot about a lie he told when he asked for the day off. Dennis sings, Star Eyes.
Rochester brings his niece, Butterfly McQueen to Barbara so she can interview her for the position as Mary’s new maid. Will she get the job, or like it? Rochester wraps up by giving her a few encouraging words.
Note: I think Barbara did a great job, even with the flubbed line, but she just didn’t seem to have quite the same chemestry in teasing Jack as Mary does.
