Two elderly spinsters live alone, near a cemetary. Amanda is the pushy one who takes care of most of the household business, while herer sister is weak, frail, and usually too afraid to leave the home. When we join them, a funeral procession is just arriving to bury the Captain. Who is he, and how does he fit in with the sisters?
The Captain is an old friend, and sometimes had come around for a nice dinner and the company of the old gals. Shortly after having dinner recently he died. Suspicion arrises when we learn that he died due to poisoning. Did Amanda and her sister bump him off? Do they actually think Amanda did the deed? Was it from a tainted jar of her prized peach preserves?
The local law men turn up the heat on how the Captain was poisoned, with lab results indicating food poisoning. Amanda is on edge when they ask her to bring in a jar of her peaches for testing.
All the secrets haven’t been discovered yet, but the Whistler is on hand to set the final scene. The real truth is exposed, and justice springs its own trap for maximum righteousness, and minimal scandal on the long established and reputable household.
