Previously Lum had bought a load of woman’s hats from the wholesaler in attempt to add to the line up of gooods in the Jot ‘Em Down store. Abner is doubtful at the 5 cases of hats, and how well they might sell. Has Lum made a shrewd business decision, or not? At least he has managed to get their bill at the wholesaler caught up.
Lum defends his decision as he tells how he bought the hats by mistake at an auction. There’s a total of 250 hats in the cases, a deal of only a dollar a hat. The hope is to start a fad to sell hats to the men of town. Abner gets a little confused over hat styles and fashions.,
Cedric enters to announce the delivery of hats. Might there be a coonskin cap in there for him? Hey, I thought that craze didn’t come for several years yet. The gents are surprised to learn the cases are full of women’s hats, instead of hats for men, and they’re all undecorated ones.
