In the Jot ‘Em Down Store, Lum has bought a big batch of raffle tickets to support veterans returning from the war. It’s also his chance to win a brand new car for only a dollar. The plan is to re-sell the tickets to folks in town to win a chance, but Abner is doubtful he can unload the tickets. Cedric enters, but has he totally given up his new career of joke writing for radio comedians?
Lum talks to Abner about soda fountain jargon. Just what does it mean to “put an egg in it” when ordering a malted milk shake? Squire enters and gets the sales routine from Lum about the raffle tickets, and Abner tries out is own salesmanship psychology.
Instead, Squire brags that nobody in town could afford, or cares to own a new car other than himself. Soon a bet is made between Lum and Squire about who will be the first one to drive a new 1946 automobile, which he owns, down the main street of townm.
