Teachers are all the same under the skin, right? Connie Brooks talks about some of the differences, and her homemade pinup calendar of Mr Boynton. Mrs Davis talks with Connie about her absentminded sister Angela. The absentminded fun keeps right on going through Walter Denton’s visit.
Walter shares a letter to the advice column, and thinks that Connie Brookes has written it about her unrequited love with Philip Boynton. The responce from the columnist is to come out of her shell, and display a winning personality. Walter is bent on helping Connie become the life of the party.
Connie thinks Walters odd behavior is all just an April Fools prank. Mrs Davis has an April Fool joke of her own, she actually cooks Connie a normal breakfast for a change.
At school, Harriot talks with her dad, Mr Conklin about throwing a party, and giving Miss Brooks the chance to come out of her shell. Harriot knows just the right way to twist daddy to her will, and the party is on. Later, Connie meets Harriot and Walter in the music room to practice for the tallent show that is supposed to be planned. Connie whips out a tune on a ukeleli, complete with vaudevillian joking with the music teacher, Mr Pringle. Though Conklin puts a quick end to the musical fun, he is tempted at his hand at a tune.
Time for the big party and Boynton talks with Connie as they are on the way. What will Boynton be doing? Maybe he and Connie can do an act together? As they sit on the couch practicing, Miss Enright rains on Connies fun. The catty remarks kick in, and the news of the letter to the advice columnist finally reaches Connie’s ears. Miss Enright admits writing it as an April Fools prank, and plans to embarrass Connie with it.
At the party, it’s time for the tallent portion, and Connie goes into Phillabuster mode and runs the floor of the tallent show to keep Miss Enright from having her chance to embarrass her. The trouble is that it looks as though Connie may have lost her man to Miss Enright for the night, but she still has a trick up her sleeve.
In epilog, Connie finds that when he learns of it, Boynton is somewhat confused over the letter. It looks like he hammed it up for nothing.
