Gracie tells George about her anticipated card game with some of her lady friends. She plans to make a nice dessert, but she tells George about some of her disasters that resulted from her past baking experiences. George shares an intimate secret that he doesn’t want to get around, that he knows how to bake a special treat, Lady Fingers.
George is embarrassed over his secret tallent, but at Gracie’s party, all the ladies go crazy over the snack. They feel that a person who can make such delicious Lady Fingers deserves publicity, but Gracie keeps a tight lid on her secret. In spite of her protests, the ladies decide to enter George’s treat in a county fair.
The rich Texan friend of George and Gracie stops in to invite them to go to the county fair with him. Of course, everything’s much bigger and better in Texas, but the man is willing to lower his sights and enjoy what the local county fair has to offer.
At the fair, the announcement is made that Gracie’s Lady Fingers have won. When she tries to back out of the prize, she let’s it slip that George made them. With the correction made, and the real winner being blasted through the loud speakers for all to hear, George wishes he were dead.
It’s the day after, and George is a haunted, crushed, and broken man. He hides at home, thinking the whole city is laughing at him. George tells Gracie about his embarrassing events that he has experienced through the day as he met folks on the street. When there’s even a newspaper story with George and his recipe, he thinks he has hit rock bottom, but might there be an advantage to his ordeal?
The agony for George continues as Blanche visits to rub it in, and asks him for cooking tips, but George loses it and goes to toss her out. Sort of.
George plans to hit the vaudeville circuit again as a solo act until all this blows over. Bill Goodwin arrives to pitch in with his own teasing. When George fires him, Bill begs for his job, and the chance to keep on telling about the sponsor. How can George keep from being teased by everybody who sees him?
The Texan comes back, and with Gracie they figure how they can have George win a manly contest. The Texan offers his fancy belt buckle as an entry to the fair. The plan ought to work, but there’s still a chance that a mix up will occur and drive George deeper into embarrassment. Poor old George, this just isn’t his day.
