Finding that Pine Ridge has no aldermen in office, and a mayor who left town, Lum vows to make Pine Ridge great again. Today he tells an eager Abner all about his plan. The meeting of leading citizens listened to Lum’s speech, but before we learn the rousing moment that Lum has built up, Cedric enters.
The lad shares his plan to set up a new business in the corner of his dad’s blacksmith shop. Lum points out a flaw in the business model. It leads into a reminder of the lingering ceiling prices that reigned through the war years. Folks still need to do their patriotic duty.
Getting back on track, Lum claims he still has a good hour and a half of his speech to get through. Abner patiently listens but is a little critical of the flowery words. The important thing is what the leading citizens decided. Lum is going to run for mayor.
