Luigi opens by writing to his mama back in Italy about the modern technologies, and conveniences. He shares his dream about owning his first car, then it’s off to his English class. The teacher gives a lesson on words with silent letters. After mangleing some words, his fellow immigrants offer a little advice on where to get a car. Sidney Sheldon is the used car dealer who hooks up Luigi with his first machine. It even almost runs. All it needs is a few safety devices like a windshield, brakes, and a host of others.
Pasquali tells Luigi about the need for auto insurance, and an operators license. Pasquali sees his chance to do a favor for Luigi, if he will only return the favor and marry his fat daughter Rosa. Instead, Luigi goes home to write another letter to mama about his car, and his frustration at learning the Rules of the Road. At least Schultz, Luigi’s immigrant friend tries to cheer him up.
When Luigi has trouble with the terminology in the drivers education book, Pasquali offers his expertise on what the strange English words means. At the drivers license station, Frank Nelson gives Luigi his road tests. As bad as the test went, the worst is yet to come when Luigi is in an accident on the way home.
With the trouble that Luigi is in, will he be forced to marry Rosa? He manages to be rescued from that fate at the last minute.
