For the first time in Jack’s broadcast history, he does his show from outside the United States. He jokes about a tunnel where he has a sign set up to charge admission. Wait for it, there’s more running gags to come about it. He salutes the Canadian troops in the audience, and gets a little tribute in return. Mary and Don talk about the sights in the towns they’ve visited. Dennis Day puts in his observation about the monetary exchange rate, then he sings. So Nice to Come Home To.
The cast get around to joking about it being Jack’s birthday. Can they pin Jack down on his age? Since Phil can’t make it, Alan MacKiver is the guest bandleader. Jack’s recent movies get a plug, his recently made Washington Slept Here, and his upcoming one, The Meanest Man in the World. The band plays, Canadian Capers.
Mary dedicates a poem to the Canadian troops. Jack tries to introduce his play for the night but keeps being interupted. Rochester reports the latest happenings from Jack’s tunnel. The play never quite makes an appearance, but I don’t think it was supposed to.
