In preparing for visiting dignitaries, the Home Guard takes role call. Captain Mannering is nominated to be chairman the to organize the event, but not everyone agrees with the appointment. Jones makes a late appearance, and tries to explain his busy day as the town butcher. Though he is given the job as messenger boy, Pike thinks the task is unfair.
Will some of the suggestions from the men make it into the ceremony? One person who has been missing is Sgt Wilson. Is someone playing a joke on him? Pike has found a letter to indicate the Sgt has been given a title. The letter is real, and now the Honorable Arthur Wilson outranks his boss, socially.
Later, the gents discuss what they think of the “Honorables,” and how the new development might affect the HomeGuard unit. Will it affect the anticipated parade, and showing honor to the Russian dignitaries?
Time for the event arrives. The unit falls out into formation. But the HonorableWilson and his motor bike are missing. This won’t ruin the honors, will it?
