Celebrating over the reward money, Lum and Abner tell how uncle Henry gave them a look, as though he was paying them out of his own pocket. They wonder why Squire hasn’t tried to sell them anything yet. Don’t worry, he will sooner or later.
The first order of business is to pay off their mortgage, and the loan from grandpap. As Abner begins thinking on what to get for his wife, Lizabeth, Lum tells why grandpap hasn’t come around. He’s out of towen, watching a new building being built.
Can Abner still afford to get Lizabeth a coat? Lum keeps figuring on how much money he owes, and to who. He figures they only have $1.15 to split between them. Lum tries to contact Squire about the mortgage, but he’s busy. As the gents plan on how to split the $1.15, Squire responds and with intrest on his mortgage, the gents are left with nothing.
