Business is booming in the store when Squires Skimp enters to talk to Lum. He reminds Lum that his business partner insurance is now in effect. What kind of worries does Lum have about the policy? He thinks Abner is acting peculiar, especially after his discussion with Grandpap yesterday.
He’s beginning to think that Abner would do away with him, to get the $5000 policy. Abner’s always been the finest fellow in the whole world, but lately, there’s something strange and creepy going on. Squire assures Lum that he’s just worked up over getting the store back in order.
Later, the gents part ways when they close up the store. Lumm heads off to have dinner with Miss Emaline, and Abner makes a quick phone call to his woman, Elizabeth. Abner gets a visit from Grandpap. He blames Grandpap for putting those ideas in his head. But the old gent shares a conversation he had with Lum earlier in the day about the insurance policy. Now Abner’s worries are renewed.
