As she sits on the Davenport, Sade comments on the chore that has Vic worrying at the library desk. He is going over his list of friends and acquaintences so he can figure out who to send a Christmas gift. It’s not the folks who are closest to him that’s the problem, but the long laundry list of those fringe acquaintences.
People from the office, people from branch offices accross the country, distant lodge members, and people who have Sade wondering who in the world they are. If he can’t cut down on the names on the list, can he at least spend a nominal amount? It may sound reasonable and practical to Sade, but everybody is equally important to Vic. It could be one thing for Sade, if any of the folks on the list had sent Vic something in the past. He would be obligated to return the favor, but nobody seems to have sent him anything.
