It’s Christmas season on the streets of Summerfield as Leroy has fun sliding across the ice on the sidewalk. He and Gildersleeve walk down the sidewalk and talk about their social activities. Leroy is heading to his friend Piggy’s, but Gildy meets Catherine.
Gildy soon learns that his rival for Catherine’s hand, Doc Olsen, is back. Now Gildersleeve tries to decide what to get for Catherine to outdo his rival, and he asks for advice from Leroy, Marjorie, and Birdie. Heading back out, Judge Hooker offers some advice, then Gildy hits the department store to see what his rival bought. Can he out do Doc Olsen?
Gildy keeps making the rounds to get some gift giving advice from Peavey. Then he ends up taking gifts to kids in the hospital, and reading a touching story about Christmas chimes. Though he hasn’t managed to get that perfect gift, a more uplifting message has been made.
