Suspense – The Dead Sleep Lightly (Susan Hayward). ep35, 430330

After attending services at a cemetery, a businessman is suddenly paranoid that he is being followed. Seeking advice from a friend who has written books on the supernatural, Templeton shares how he found himself at a forgotten grave site. Miss Carole learns the grave is that of Templeton’s wife.

He figures its the least he can do to care for the grave, and put flowers on it. With so many graves, how will he find it again? Each site is numbered, like a telephone number.

Later at home, Templeton grows crabby over trivial things like a music box, and when calling a phone number, he seems to have called a ghost. Is it his wife? How could he place a call on a disconnected phone? Is he going out of his mind? Is his wife coming for him?

The author, Mr Willmot, can’t sit up with Templeton, but after his lecture, he arrives and finds Miss Carole and the maid present. Has something happened to Templeton? He describes the clues of an elaborate prank, designed to push Templeton over the edge. Who did it, and why? Dark secrets emerge. But is Templeton dead, or not?

  1. A great story. Kept me on the edge of my seat. And who knew Susan Hayward did radio in the 1940s?

I love this one too. A couple of years later, miss. Traveler would do the same script but with a few modifications. One, is the lack of Susan Hayward. The other is a slightly different ending.
