When a lad of 16 travels with his mother through the Irish countryside, the widow and her son are inspired by the music coming from a chapel service. Young Augusta wants to become a reverend, and after a word of warning of the rough life involved, he is launched into his career path.
Time passes, and the reverend is sent out on a call for pastoral care. The road is rough, and bad weather blows in. Can the young clergy make the five-mile trip safely, and beat the storm? It’s no use trying to travel in the black wet night, and a small cave offers shelter. Grateful for the cleft in the rock, lyrics are penned.
Arriving at his destination the next morning, and sharing the poem becomes the first steps in the famous hymn, Rock of Ages.
