In the home of Philip Drake, wealthy stockbroker, his friend Roger is called on to keep Vivian from walking out on Philip’s marriage. Tensions rise, and a gun is produced. In a heated passion, Philip shoots Vivian to keep her from running out on him for someone else. Being the good friend that he is, Roger volunteers to dispose of both the gun and body. As he reaches the woods, we learn there was a conspiracy. The gun was filled with blanks, and Vivian drives away in Roger’s car.
Meanwhile, Roger returns to blackmail his old friend. The whole time, Vivian is hidden away at Roger’s apartment, and is not happy in the slow way Roger is milking Philip for money. Tired of being cooped up, Vivian has taken a risk, and gone out shopping. Will this mess up Roger’s plans?
The blackmail visits continue, but Philip has had enough. Refusing to make the payment, Philip begins to come to his senses, and sees through the ruse of the staged murder. When he forces Roger to show him the grave that he is sure doesn’t exist, Philip is surprised to find that it really does contain a corpse. Is it Vivian? His nerves break, and cops are called so he can turn himself in. But wait, there’s still one more twist that ensures the killer receives justice.
