Wanting to show the men how to run a patrol, the major sees his chance to force the new policies. When offered the chance to go along, Coonze refuses, leaving finding his son to the pros. When Indian raiders ride in, screaming, the major’s near mistep could have cost the patrol their lives. Quince manages to get help from the braves in locating the missing boy. But will the major be impressed?
Allowed to stay behind on the prairie, Quince gains trust from a warrior. The men decide to act in peace and honor to find Billy. Will their efforts be enough to counter any bad reports the new major might send back to Washington? When Billy is found, we learn that any evil intent is far from conflict betweenm Indian and whitemen, but problems among whitemen.
