A writer needs to get away from the distractions of his daily life. To free himself, and get his poetic juices flowing, he decides to set up house in Bracie’s department store. Sleeping on the beds at night, and generally living in the store after hours. He soon discovers that his idea is not an original one. He discovers a whole society of night dwellers who have done the same thing. Some have been living in this, and other stores for years.
As he finds his place in this wierd society, he learns it’s not all so rosy. Why are people so mean to the young girl, Ella? Who are the Dark Men? The writer finds out that this new lifestyle has it’s own snobbery, and can even be more ruthless than he expected. His dream world turns into a nightmare that he is afraid he can’t escape. Is escape even possible? Remember the opening scene with the distraught woman?
