In the Blue Note, Casey talks the matter over with Ann and Ethylbert. Steve is a bookie, and claims to have paid off his gambling debts. His safe was empty, and he doesn’t know where the cash came from that was in it. Casey strikes on a situation involving loaded dice, and a new scenario of how the bodies came to be is arrived at. Can Casey prove his theory? A confrontation is set up, but gunshots ring out as the plot is being uncovered. It doesn’t matter, since it only speeds the answers along for Casey to bring to light.
