Today is Father’s Day, and it’s Phil’s day to reign supreme. The girls pamper him as he relaxes, and Alice dances for him. I wondered if he was ever so lucky in real life?
Phil recaps last weeks’s program to tell why little Andy is living with them. Andy is a French orphan, and Phil tells how Frankie is trying to take French lessons. Frankie pops in to see Andy, who the Harris family is keeping until Frankie can officially adopt him. After a gift exchange, Phil shows off the english that he’s been teaching Andy. I think the math lesson needs work though.
The biggest snag to Frankie adopting the boy is that he needs to be married. Growing desperate for a wife, he has done the only thing he could. He placed an ad in the paper. Hey, I wonder if the Pine Ridge Matrimonial Bureau is still operating. I’ll bet Lum and Abner could get him married off.
Speaking of Lum and Abner, Frankie pulls a similar stunt as those old gents have done with their matrimonial bureau from time to time. He uses Phil’s photo in place of his own. Even going as far as using Phil’s name. I’ll bet Alice will be upset when she finds out.
Phil worries at the expected rush of girls to the door, but gets his bubble burst at the slim trickle that made it. As arrangements are made between Frankie and his intended bride Alice sings, I’m as Corny as Kansas.
Is it any suprise that Frankie has second thoughts? Plot twists arrive when Andy has found relatives who will take him in, and then there’s the matter of how Frankie can get out of his engagement. A serious matter in those days that could actually lead to a Breach of Contract law suit. But you know who we haven’t seen in the show yet today? Julius. Is it possible that he might help out his favorite tormenters and do Frankie a favor for a change?
