Things look bleak for the Pine Ridge Possums, when news reaches coach Lum that his star player is moving to Oden. Today we find Lum talking on the phone to see if Squire Skimp can help with getting new football equipment. Lum leaves Abner to handle taking orders for groceries when grandpap interrupts the conversation with Mrs. Pomeroy.
Abner comments on the way Lum looks in his sweat pants, and other items of coaching apparel. His new coach whistle is even more nerve racking than Cedric’s bird whistle. The added annoyances make Abner not care whether the team wins or loses. Can he convince grandpap to help around the store to take up slack?
Grandpap is too busy, but he gives his opinion on helping Lum focus his attention. Abner gets confused over what grandpap is talking about. And I think even grandpap gets himself moire than a little confused. Squire enters with good news. He may have rounded up enough funding to buy that new equipment, but the donations hinge on whether the Possums can win their next game.
