What if you were the last man on earth, sitting alone in a room, then heard a knock at the door? That’s where the story begins. The alien race known as the Zon ask what they can do for the college professor of anthropology to make his life comfortable. Walter figures out that he has become a zoo specimen. George, the Zon approaches Walter with a problem, some of the specimens have fallen asleep, and can’tbe be awakened. The Zon don’t understand the concept of death.
Walter is taken to a new room, one with Grace Evans in it. The two share stories of being put together in the alien zoo. Can they use their knowledge of mortality to win a victory over the Zon? More critters are dieing, and the Zon think that Walter is somehow doing it to spoil the zoo. Will Walter find himself in trouble?
Grace has a lot more fighting spirit than Walter, but will he be able to handle playing along as they withold the secret of how the animals in the zoo are dieing? Watch out, or the Zon will vibrate you to death Walter. Huh? Tell them Walter, or the Zon will put the female under the vibrations. Uh-oh, did I just lose my clean rating?
Soon the Zon begin to keel over. What will the counsil decide? Will the vibrating torture end? What did Walter tell them to let the Zon release them? How did the long lived Zons begin to drop like flies?
