The theme to open the show is Oscar and the Academy Awards. Eddi Cantor jokes about his bill in the restaurant and new year’s resolutions. He won’t lose his temper over it, will he? With the help of announcer, Jimmy Wallington, Eddie recaps a few major events of 1936. Movies, sports, entertainment, celebrities and more. Eddie sings a New Year’s Eve song to pitch the sponsor.
Parky Carcass joins Eddie to joke about the missing Oscar, the Rose Bowl game, and football. Deana Durbin sings, Kiss Me Again.
Cookie and the orchestra play a nice dance tune. Eddie and the cast put on their version of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Is there a reason Eddie shouldn’t play little Eva, the girl who goes to heaven? Parky still gets in-jokes about the Rose Bowl. Eddie sings a jazzy version of, Twinkle Little Star.
It’s back to the theme of finding the lost Oscar when Al Jolson shows up. They joke about each other’s sponsors, then sing each other hit songs. Mammie, Marjie, and harmonize with Dinah.
