Proud of his Navy career, Jack Benny is teased about his Naval service in the previous war. He tells about some of his ancestors who also did good. When Mary Livingstone arrives, she learns that sailors don’t chase girls. Yeah right. she and Jack learn what the sailors eat in the Mess Hall, then Dennis Day arrives for confusing fun. He sings, I Hear a Rhapsody.
After mutual compliments between Jack and Dennis, Phil Harris milks the crowd for applause. He gets in some jabs at Jack’s Naval service. Jack complains about the boys in the band. As the play is announced, Rochester phones in to complain about the boarder, Mr. Billingsley and his odd behavior.
The scene reenacts the life of Jack Benny during World War 1. He picks up his uniforms, and fills out personal identification. Frank Nelson is more than glad to torment the new sailor as he processes into the Navy. After his initial training is done, Jack hangs out with Phil Harris for a few drinks. Will he make it back to his base OK? I don’t know. Jokes range through military discipline, dating girls, and preparing to sail.
