Abner can’t see how they can make money by just selling pieces of paper. Lum has to explain about the $10 shares of stock
Abner is told how selling too many shares can drive the price down. As long as the profit margin is as good as Lum says it is, Abner is all for it. Lum reminds Abner of their new roles with himself as the eagle of the mercantile, and Abner as floorwalker.
To show how easy the business of selling stock will be, Lum targets his first mark when grandpap and Cedric enter. The first stock certificates are almost too easy. What might blow the deal? Lum thinks he needs to get a chalkboard, and a few other items to give his new business venture the right look. you know, to make the place look like a real brokerage firm.
