For many years Rev Fawcet had dreamed of moving up to a more prominent church. A letter finally arrives with the long-awaited news. John and his wife now need to break the news to their small, humble congregation. The news is greeted with a silent sadness.
Still being guided by prayer, the tearful congregants help pack up the Fawcet’s household goods. The heartbreaking moment is too much for Rev Fawcet, and he proclaims that he’s turning down the new opportunity. The wagons are unpacked. But this time with tears of joy.
As part of his sermon for the next Sunday, the reverend penned a few poetic lines that later were set to music, and became the beloved him, Blessed Be the Tie that Binds.
