Abner expresses his doubts to Lum about the insanity plea. He’s sure that Squire Skimp, and the rest of folks in Pine Ridge know him well enough to know he ain’t crazy. Lum tries to give him ideas to make him appear insane. Funny hats, paper dolls, but will the behavior pass the test of the local medical authority? The gents wonder over why Napoleon has one hand in his coat.
Elsewhere, Squire talks two the county medical authority. The doc meets Lum, who directs him to Abner, but along the way, Lum’s chatter makes the doc think that he’s the patient instead. The plans to make Abner seem insane are shared, only to make it seem ee=ven more that Lum is the crazy one.
Once Abner appears, his responses work to make it seem he’s only appeasing a crazy Lum. Things certainly look bad for the progress of the case, but what direction will it go next?
