A search for the diamond hasn’t turned up a trace of it. Lum grills Abner to be sure it wasn’t misplaced, or overlooked in some obvious place. Another note is slid under their door. What kind of threat might this one hold? Lum is pleasantly surprised to find a love note from Miss Platt.
Time passes, and Abner plays checkers with grandpap until time for Lum to meet his sweetheart. As they wait for the ladies to get out of the Red Cross meeting, the phone rings. This is the night she planned on working late, right? Why did she say she was at the Barton’s then?
Abner tries to call Lum to save him a trip to the school house. As Lum’s phone rings, we join him on the dark and lonely path. Just as he wonders where Miss Emiline might be, a different. More creepy voice greets him.
