Claud and Leta are home from college, and learn that they are expected to be married before their aunt Hester dies. The old biddy wants to keep the fortune in the family, and if either of er adopted youngsters should wed anyone else, the entire estate will go to the other. But what happens if she finds out they both have already married their own sweethearts? Nobody gets the fortune.
Not trusting the other, first Claude. Then Leta out the other about their marriages. What next, knock off the ailing, old aunt? The Whistler hints there could be another option, but he isn’t in the position to offer advice.
Forced to work together, Claude and Leta confront the aunt, and determine to shoot her. The sound of gunshots have the visiting pair of fiancées out to point fingers. The argument grows heated as the doctor is called upon. But how can it be that he declares her dead of natural causes? The Whistler explain how it happened, but there’s still a twist that Claude and Leta didn’t count on that stands to still leave them without their inheritance.
