Festivities over valentines day have taken priority over the complications in Lum and Abner’s lives. Today, Cedric, the only scholar in his school with a social security card, shares about his ordeal in valentines day cards. One problem is the shortage of paper. Another is Cedric’s desire to do something special for his teacher and classmates. The wheeling and dealing begins over the 20 cent card.
When Lum enters, he takes a fancy to the card, and insists that Cedric sell the card back. Abner suspects who Lum wants to give the card to, and Lum makes excuses as to why the fancy card will ruin the life of such a fine lad as Cedric. Jealousy among his friends, and worse.
After being convinced on how the gaudy valentine card will ruin his life, Cedric settles on one that’s more plain, and tosses the fancy one behind the pickle barrel. His young life and virtues rescued,. Cedric leaves. But Abner is surprised to discover his pal, Lum, suddenly on the floor behind the pickle barrel. He wouldn’t be looking for a gAudy card for his sweetheart,. Would he?
